Autumn in Southeastern Connecticut

It's friday

That’s right – it’s Friday and the weekend is here.

This Friday I am taking us out of Fairfield County and highlighting a part of Connecticut I love – Southeastern Connecticut. It’s a quaint area where you’ll find great towns like Mystic, Stonington, and Waterford – to name a few. In the Autumn months, it’s a great area to visit or venture up to for a weekend getaway.

Located at the mouth of the Thames River, the area was one of the three largest whaling ports in the early 19th century. Today the area is steeped in New England lore and is reminiscent of a Herman Melville novel.

If museums are of particular interest, Southeastern Connecticut has plenty.  They range from Historic House Museums of Southeastern Connecticut, where you can tour historic homes from the 16th century that showcase the history of the state to the Mystic Seaport Museum, which has a recreated whaling village. History truly comes alive here.

The Mystic Aquarium is a great attraction for families. From a menagerie of aquatic animals, great exhibits and special events – it is a place where children of all ages will learn and have a great time.

There are plenty of great restaurants and nightlife to enjoy and the seafood is amazing. Additionally, both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods located in Leryard, so if you fancy a game of cards or craps or roulette, you are in the right place. The casinos always have top-notch musical performances and are great venues to go see a concert.

Well, that’s it for tonight. Hope you all have a great weekend.
