What in the world of marketing…..

Hello again!!! I took a few days off from blogging, but I’m back with some fresh ideas and insights for you.

There were two stories I saw today that got me thinking about the future of direct marketing. Both offer opportunity and show us how we need to be thinking outside of the box as marketers, as society evolves every day.

Story 1:

Kylie Jenner is being sued over the her website not being accessible to the blind. Let that sink in a little.

Now, once you get past the salacious headlines you learn that it’s over the fact that her website is not compatible with screen reader software which allows blind people to access the internet.

The takeaway here is we live is quite a litigious society, where the offended are triggered by the smallest thing. As entrepreneurs and marketers, we need to make sure we have all our bases covered when we are setting up our own websites or advising clients on how to develop their websites. I would venture to say that even in how we market has to be carefully monitored. The triggers for a public outcry or a # boycott are as close as making your copy or imagery to racy or close to the line. In 2018, it’s better to be safe than sorry, in the opinion of this marketer.

Supreme Court legalizes Sports Betting:

Today, the Supreme Court voted that Nevada no longer has a stranglehold on sports betting and individual States can decide if they wish to allow it. Why is this important for marketers and businesses?

New Jersey, who brought the case before the Supreme Court, already has a plan in place to start the legalization of sports betting immediately and other States are soon to follow. This is a new sector that will definitely be doing a lot of advertising and marketing in 2018 and in the coming years. As marketers, we are seeing marketing verticals that were once considered taboo – becoming mainstream. Given the popularity of sites like Draftkings and other similar sites, this vertical seems like it is ready to explode – and getting ahead of it is a good idea.

Well, that’s it for tonight. Short and sweet. Hope you all had a great Mother’s Day weekend!!!!
